Gardaí say they do not know of any motive for the killing of Thomas Taffe and Marie Murtagh at a farmhouse in County Longford.
Their bodies were discovered by local priest Fr Eugene Cox.
State Pathologist Dr John Harbison visited the scene.
While the post-mortem results have not been confirmed, it is believed that both victims were shot in the head.
