Exotic male dance group the Chippendales entertain the The Late Late Show audience.
Host of ‘The Late Late Show’ Gay Byrne pauses a panel discussion with author Deirdre Purcell, author Briege Duffaud, writer and journalist Rose Doyle, singer Finbar Wright and comedian Dermot Morgan for some entertainment. He introduces the American male exotic dance group the Chippendales,
They’ve been described as raunchy; they’ve been described as sexy; they’ve been described as powerful.
When the Chippendales come to Ireland they pack out the theatre for a week almost exclusively with women. Four of the usual 16 dancers give ‘The Late Late Show’ audience a flavour of what to expect at the Irish shows. Following the performance Deirdre Purcell observes,
Where’s the Bishop of Galway now when we need him?
The marking executive behind the Chippendales’ European operation Nickie Pope is in ‘The Late Late Show’ audience.
Regarding criticism of the Chippendales,
If it comes from a woman we're interested, if it comes from a man were not interested.
She has no time for what men think of the show as,
It’s a show for women, men can come if they want but there’s nothing there for them.
Nickie Pope sums up the Chippendales’ show as,
A good fun night out, that’s the bottom line.
In the main the Chippendales audience consists of big groups of women. Nickie Pope says the groups often include grandmothers, mothers and daughters.
A grandmother in the audience says she would be happy to go to see the Chippendales. Another grandmother enjoyed their performance,
I think they’re great.
A third thinks the Chippendales are,
Lovely.
Three admiring young women hope,
Regarding the Chippendales would there be one for everyone in the audience?
The Chippendales are at the Olympia Theatre from 27 September 1993 for six nights.
