Dunboyne residents unhappy with Meath County Council plan to rezone land for housing construction.
Meath County Councillors voted last night to rezone huge parcels of land in the east of the county for housing.
The county council development plan for Meath includes removing a green belt land bank in Dunboyne that separates it from County Dublin.
People in Dunboyne say this measure will make their town part of the Dublin urban sprawl, is a bad move for the local environment, will increase traffic, and is in breach of planning guidelines.
Local people feel let down by their politicians. Rachel McGuinness of Dunboyne Combined Residents Association says they were assured that the green belt would be retained. Now their elected representatives have
Reneged on all those promises.
Minister for the Environment Noel Dempsey said that changes have been made to the draft development plan, and that the new one has been adopted.
