Students from Kennedy Park National School Wexford learn about Greenland White Fronted geese.
The Raven Nature Reserve near Curracloe beach is an important wintering ground for Greenland White-fronted geese.
Between mid April and October these geese live in western Greenland and arctic Canada, migrating to Ireland before the onset of winter.
The Greenland White-fronted geese are just one of a wide diversity of species that can be seen at the reserve at this time of year. This is a safe haven for the birds, with food in abundance in the form of fields planted with sugar beet.
The reserve is also a winter home for Widgeon, Greylag geese and Common Shelduck, as well as Bewick's Swan and flocks of Greenfinches.
Brendan Stafford enjoyed keeping an eye on the geese out from the observation tower.
You can see where they feed and sleep.
Sharon Berry learned a lot about geese from today’s trip, and Brian Murphy believes it is important to care for nature.
It’s our future. We should try and preserve it.
