A 13 storey building is demolished ahead of construction on the grounds of Saint Vincent's Hospital.
Explosive experts failed in their first attempt to demolish the former nurses' home at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Dublin. The demolition company said that the gables in the elevator were stronger than expected and prevented the tower block from completely collapsing after two controlled blasts yesterday morning. Dick Green from the Controlled Demolition Group was a little embarrassed by the failed attempt to knock the building.
It was a good old fashioned ball and chain and crane that eventually flattened the high rise building at 9.40 pm last night.
The Controlled Demolition Group are hoping to win the contract to demolish the high rise towers in Ballymun later in the year.
On the Saint Vincent's site, plans are now underway for a £170 million investment to include a new main hospital building.
