Fans of sci-fi and fantasy are looking forward to a festival in Wexford.
Wexworlds, the science fiction and fantasy festival, takes place in Wexford town. This is the second year for the festival and thousands of visitors are expected.
Alien 8 is a new science fiction and fantasy bookshop in Wexford that will open during the festival. Owners Martin Murphy and John Val Walsh, are both sci-fi fans who saw that there was a gap in the local market for the genre.
Elsewhere in Wexford town, Steve Wilson is building a replica Star Wars snow sweeper for one of the many exhibitions and workshops for Wexworlds.
Author and patron of Wexworlds, Eoin Colfer, describes Wexford as a stronghold of fantasy fiction. His involved in the festival was inspired by a visit to Comic-Con in San Diego.
Adeline Quirke, CEO Wexford Chamber of Commerce, believes that Wexworlds has tapped into something niche that will benefit the local economy.
