Training schemes for workers in new technology will help develop an electronics industry in Ireland.
The future is electronic, and Ireland's industrial training authority AnCO (An Chomhairle Oiliúna) is providing hands on training to young people interested in working in this field.
The training has been financed by the European Social Fund, and grants have also been awarded to companies to provide electronics experience for their employees.
Prime Computers in Santry is one firm which has benefited from state subsidised training. Finbarr Gallagher explains how funding enabled technicians, management and administrative staff to travel to the United States for specialised training.
John Butler of AnCO has observed how the network of training centres have assisted companies both in Ireland and abroad. Foreign owned businesses based here have learned from the ANCO programme and brought ideas back to their parent company.
