Malin is a relic of the Ulster plantation in the 17th century and has kept much of this character to this day. Long before the tidy towns competition existed, Malin was often referred to as the prettiest village in Ireland. Malin has taken part in all the tidy towns competitions over the past 13 years.
Speaking at the unveiling of a sign to mark the win for Malin, Minister for Transport and Power Brian Lenihan praised Donegal a county with excellent community relations. He notes Malin as a shining example of good citizenship.
