Dublin Corporation will provide an interest free loan for the restoration of the Olympia Theatre.

The Olympia Theatre on Dame Street in Dublin has been closed since 5 November 1974 when part of the building collapsed. The cost of restoring the 100 year old theatre is estimated at £300,000. Already some £20,000 has been raised by voluntary donations and fundraising events.

Dublin Corporation agrees to allocate an interest-free loan of up to £100,000 towards the cost of restoring the Olympia Theatre. Only two members object to the move. The loan now needs only the sanction of the Minister for Local Government, James Tully, and he is expected to do so.

The decision is little more than a formality following Dublin Corporation agreeing in July 1974 to give support.
