A fire on Dalkey Island threatens the welfare of the goats living there.

There are 18 goats living on Dalkey Island, off Coliemore Harbour near the village of Dalkey in County Dublin.

But recent fires there have led to a scarcity of food, which is causing concern to the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) is worried about the shortage of food. If the position worsens, they will ask Dún Laoghaire Corporation to remove some of the goats from the island.

The DSPCA does not think Dalkey Island is big enough for the 18 goats. Dún Laoghaire Corporation introduced the female goats to the island. Someone put a ram there and since then the population has increased.
