Ballyconnell is announced as the overall winner of the Tidy Towns competition.

Organised by the national tourism authority Bord Fáilte, the Tidy Towns competition aims to support communities in the care and improvement of towns and villages.

With a population of just under five hundred, Ballyconnell is situated in north west County Cavan on the Dublin to Donegal road. The win this year was built on previous success, as Ballyconnell took home national honours for the first time four years ago.

A Tidy Towns winner is not just about being litter free. Ballyconnell is aware of its architechtural heritage, and a standout for the adjudicating committee was the,

Retention and appreciation of traditional shopfronts.
