A journey along the west coast to capture 360 degree images of some of Ireland's most remote beauty spots.

Brian Quinn and Michael Fitzsimons from Fáilte Ireland are using a Google Trekker to generate images of Ireland's Atlantic coastline. The Trekker is part of the Google suite of Street View technologies. The wearable backpack has a head that houses fifteen cameras. The two men are using the technology on a trip around Strandhill in Sligo to capture some of the more off the beat beauty spots. Brian Quinn describes the equipment as,

The backpack version of the streetview car.

The pack captures a 360 degree view as the wearer walks along a trail. Fáilte Ireland is using the technology to generate images of remote places along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Michael Fitzsimons describes how they have already captured Inishboffin, Inisturk, Diamond Hill, Kylemore Abbey, and the Mayo Greenway. The plan is to complete the Wild Atlantic Way by the end of the month and it is hoped that the images will be available for viewing early in the new year.
