Cahir Castle hosts the first interpretive centre in Ireland to share natural and cultural knowledge.

The first interpretive centre opens at Cahir Castle in Tipperary, where it will help explain aspects of architectural, historical and environmental interest. The opening of the information centre is part of the European Architectural Heritage Year and will help to promote and understand Ireland's national heritage.

A joint project by the Office of Public Works (OPW) and Bord Fáilte, it was officially opened by Henry Kenny, parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Finance.

Cahir Castle was chosen as a centre for this experiment in interpretation because it in itself is one of the most important national monuments and fortunately, it has accommodation ideally suited for the occasion.

Cahir Castle was acquired in 1964 as a national monument by the OPW. In 1971, the castle was officially opened to the public.
