Terry Wogan, Michael Smurfit, Hugh Orde, Glenn Barr and Syd Millar to receive royal honours.

Limerick born broadcaster Terry Wogan is to be awarded an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II. Irish businessman Michael Smurfit, who was born in England and has dual nationality, received an award for services to British industry. In Northern Ireland, PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde was honoured for his role in overseeing the transition of the RUC into the PSNI. Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Peter Hain MP said that the award was very well deserved.

Hugh Orde has given fantastic leadership as police constable.

Glenn Barr, who was a leading figure in the loyalist Ulster Defence Association during the 1970s was awarded an OBE for his community work in Derry. Former Irish rugby hero and Lion's coach Syd Millar received the CBE in recognition of his role in the International Rugby Board.
