A man and his mother are the subjects of an underwater tale told through dance and shot on film.

A swimming pool is the setting for an underwater dance film about the relationship between a man and his mother. The short film 'Deep End Dance is choreographed by and stars David Bolger alongside his mother Madge Bolger. The film produced by Wildfire Films and directed by Conor Horgan is part of the Dublin Dance Festival.

During the festival artists from around the world will perform at eight venues and series of short films will be premiered on RTE television, as part of what is described as a beautiful and bold celebration of contemporary dance.

'Deep End Dance' is one of the RTÉ Dance on the Box series of films which will be broadcast during the Dublin Dance Festival. Conor Horgan describes the film as an underwater dance film telling the story of the relationship between a man and his mother. The dancers are also played by real life mother and son, choreographer David Bolger and his 76 year old mother Madge Bolger.

David Bolger explains how he wanted the 'Deep End Dance' to explore notions of the deep end and dependence of the mother-son relationship.

As a child I depended on my mother and now maybe she depends on me a little bit more.

Madge Bolger loves swimming and recalls taking David to this swimming pool at just under the age of two. She has been swimming at the pool ever since.
