Residents of a Galway village call for a Garda investigation into the cause of recent bog and forest fires.

There is a sense of anger among people from the Moycullen area as they surveyed the damage today.

Eleven families had to be evacuated last night, explains Annette Casburn, this was not a natural fire.

Another local resident Martin Fahy says people are very upset that this has happened twice in three years.

Over the past few days thousands of acres of forestry and bog vegetation has been destroyed by fire around Moycullen and Oughterard.

Philip Casburn witnessed birds fleeing the fire, and says the impact on wildlife is devastating.

Every nest within a probably mile radius is gone.

The worst of the forest fires was brought under control this evening, and Coillte has said firefighting teams will be kept on standby over the weekend.
