Hopes that the new Garda confidential telephone number will assist in the fight against crime.
Minister for Justice Nora Owen announced the introduction of a new Garda confidential telephone number. By using the telephone line, the public will have an opportunity to assist in solving crime. Speaking at Garda headquarters, the minister said it was the duty of civic minded citizens to help the Gardaí with their investigations.
Use the number 1800 666 111 and hopefully we will have a safer place to live in.
People who call the number will hear a recorded message. They can then leave any information they have as a voice message. The service is free and Gardaí are ensuring the public that it is confidential.
Deputy Garda Commissioner PJ Moran says that it is the quality of the calls rather than the quantity that is of benefit to police work. He is hopeful that the public will remember the new telephone number better than the previous one.
