Man Booker Prize winner DBC Pierre visits Aughnasheelin National School on World Book Day.

Peter Finley is better known as DBC Pierre, the Man Booker prize-winning author of the book 'Vernon God Little'. The Australian-born writer has lived in Mexico and Texas but is now a resident of Aughnasheelin, County Leitrim.

To mark the 8th World Book Day in Ireland, DBC Pierre visits pupils at Aughnasheelin National School to discuss the importance of books and spark the pupils’ imaginations.

World Book Day is primarily targeted at young people to encourage them to experience the joy of reading.

This year adults are being encouraged to take part by recommending a good book to their friends, but the main focus is still on getting children interested in reading.

To celebrate World Book Day over €1.4 million worth of tokens have been distributed in primary schools throughout Ireland. The tokens can be used to buy selected books for €1.50.
