Dublin joins celebrations across the world to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Hundreds of millions of people around the world will mark the start of a new year on the Chinese calendar. The Year of the Sheep is considered to be a particularly lucky year.

In Beijing, there was the traditional fireworks display to ring in the new year.

The world has seen its biggest annual migration as Chinese people travel to be with their families.

A well wishing ceremony was held in Dublin with people leaving ribbons and cards expressing their hopes for the year ahead.

Amy Yin Zhag, of the Chinese new year festival committee, explains the Year of the Sheep is the eighth year in the Chinese zodiac.

Number 8 is considered to be a very lucky number in the Chinese culture.

Food plays a big part in the celebrations. Mindy Tang of Ka Shing restaurant says the classic traditional meal includes roast duck, roast pork and roast chicken.

A carnival in Temple Bar is one of the many events orgainsed by Dublin City Council. Ray Yeates, Dublin City Council, believes we have so much to learn and share with Chinese culture.
