Did you get a pet for Christmas and are you still looking after it?

In the 'Private Eye' segment of young people's television programme 'Echo Island', reporters David Bruce and Kevin Brown investigate animal cruelty. The duo also share camera and reporting duties.

David Bruce and Kevin Brown visit the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) shelter in Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham. A staff member shows Kevin Brown a horse and donkey recovering from abuse.

Reporters David Bruce and Kevin Brown are concerned that after Chirstmas people are no longer interested in the pets they received as presents. They dramatise the plight of a dog dumped by its owners. The story of this dog highlights that,

There’s not always a happy ending for stray animals, they may end up in a dog pound or roaming around the streets scavenging for food.

David Bruce and Kevin Brown offer key advice for pet owners,

If you have an animal, take care of it.

If you no longer want an animal,

Don’t just neglect it or let it out somewhere, bring it to an animal shelter.

To sum up,

Animals are not just dumb creatures they have got feelings too.
