Mixed reactions to the first Christmas lights at City Hall in Dublin.

Dublin's City Hall at the junction of Dame Street and Parliament Street succumbs to the Christmas spirit. The entrance to the Georgian building is flanked by Christmas trees tastefully adorned with white lights.

The seasonal gesture was the result of the reversed traffic system.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Michael O'Halloran, assisted by City Manager Frank Feeley, performs the switching-on ceremony.

The project cost the Corporation over £1,000.

The Christmas decorations receive a mixed reception from passersby. Some people approve of the pretty lights and the Dublin Corporation effort to illuminate more parts of the city. One woman does not think the trees are decorative enough,

I'd prefer if there was some nice tinsel and some nice fancy balls and a few nice decorations on them to make them nicer, and the top a star.

Another woman is more critical,

I wish they'd give me a raise and stop spending my money on Christmas lights, but other than that I think it's quite nice.
