Heads of government from across Europe arrive in Dublin for an EEC Summit.
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was welcomed at Dublin Aiport by British Ambassador to Ireland Robin Haydon. As several other European leaders arrived, a large area of the airport was sealed off to ensure their security. Among the other arrivals were German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.
The first engagement for leaders was a lunch meeting at Áras an Uachtaráin with President Patrick Hillery who is also a former EEC Commissioner. They were joined by Taoiseach Jack Lynch who is the President of the European Council.
The convoy of VIPs drove to Áras an Uachtaráin.
Before lunch, the European leaders posed for photographs outside Áras an Uachtaráin. After lunch, the leaders made their way to Dublin Castle to commence the summit. Demonstrators outside Dublin Castle protested over sugar production levels and the H-Block.
The summit, under Mr Lynch's chairmanship, got down to the serious matter of budget contributions and other EEC business.
