A look at Carrick-on-Suir through the eyes of poet Michael Coady.

Poet, short story writer and teacher Michael Coady has lived in Carrick-on-Suir County Tipperary for most of his life. Winner of the Patrick Kavanagh Award in 1979, his first book of poetry 'Three for a Man' was published a year later, and 'Oven Lane' followed in 1987.

The history of Carrick-on-Suir and the people of the town inspire his work. The natural world features largely in his writing, and he finds himself drawn to the river Suir which flows through the town,

Flowing water to me refreshes the mind and the spirit.

The history of the place is also a constant presence in Michael Coady's life and work. Singer and fellow Carrick man Liam Clancy reads his poem 'The Story in the Bowl' which has a span of centuries,

Until it reached maturity with Black Tom Butler, Earl of Ormond,

And Elizabeth's best man in Ireland

Who loved the land, but also loved his queen.
