Some 200 athletes participate in the Annalee AC 10K road race around Cavan town. Centre stage is one of the county's sporting superstars and one of Ireland's great athletes, Catherina McKiernan,

The pride of Cornafean.

The four time silver medalist at the World Cross Country Championships, is an Olympian, and winner of the London and Amsterdam marathons in 1998.

She has chosen the Annalee AC 10K road race as her final competitive event. Catherina McKiernan takes first place in the women’s race with a time of 33 minutes and 55 seconds. While the win is a triumph, it is very much a case of happiness tinged with sadness,

Naturally enough it was sad when I saw family and friends and it was the natural thing to be a little but sad but in saying that it was a great day and I really appreciated the crowd coming out.
