The port of Cork may lose quay space as part of a plan to build two new bridges over the River Lee.

A blueprint to solve chronic traffic problems in Cork involves building two new bridges across the River Lee. This plan would mean the port of Cork losing more than half its quay space.

1,700 feet of quayside will be gobbled up by the new bridges at Ship Street and Lapp's Quay.

According to the Cork Harbour Commissioners compensation for the lost quays should come out of state funds because the traffic plan is a national undertaking.
