A soccer mad agricultural officer marries a teacher in a large west of Ireland wedding.

Gerry Rushe an agricultural officer and teacher Carmel Lally married in front of a small army of family, and friends. A mad sport fan Gerry Rushe was joined by fellow sports fanatics among over 1,300 guests who attended the wedding in the Galway village of Menlough.

Love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage.

The guests included fellow soccer fans from as far afield as Mauritius, Bangkok, Baghdad and Nantucket Island.

Gerry Rushe recently stood in the local elections receiving 800 votes sent an open invitation to this wedding celebration.

Gerry Rushe claims to have attended 502 weddings. He has been the best man at 15 of them. Last week alone, he survived four stag parties.

Tonight, five hundred bottles of champagne have been popped and fifteen hundred steaks are being barbequed to celebrate the west's wedding of the season.
