Two ESB chimneys that were well known landmarks in the midlands are demolished.
The ESB has taken down two more chimney stacks at an old power station site at Shannonbridge in County Offaly.
The red and white coloured tower in Shannonbridge was over three hundred feet tall and one of the best known landmarks in the midlands. A second chimney built in 1962 was also demolished.
Shannonbridge Power Station was one of the largest providers of jobs in west Offaly and generated millions of pounds of income for communities in the region. The new Lough Ree Power Plant stands on the same site employing just over 40 people. The two remaining chimneys from the old power station are pulled down with controlled explosions.
One man who has been visiting Shannonbridge for twenty years says he feels lost in the midlands with the loss of the two landmark chimneys.
The future for jobs in the region now lies in green energy.
The days of hundreds of jobs in electricity are well and truly over.
