The International Folk Dance Festival in Cobh is opened by President Erskine Childers.
President Erskine Childers arrived in Cobh and inspected a guard of honour made up of members of the naval service stationed at Haulbowline.
The opening ceremony for The International Folk Dance Festival included a colourful parade with international dancers in full costume. Opening the event, President Childers said that festivals like this were important in furthering international relations and preserving traditional folk music and dance.
