Tenor Frank Patterson sings 'Macushla' a tale of love and sadness.

The lyrics for 'Macushla' were written in 1910 by Josephine V Rowe, with music composed by Harold White, whose nome de plume was Dermot Macmurrough.

The song became a bestseller and is regarded as an Irish classic, having been recorded by Count John McCormack in 1911, as well as by Josef Locke and Frank Patterson.

Frank Patterson who performs it here accompanied by scenic shots of the Irish coast and countryside.

'Macushla' is an anglicised version of the Irish mo chuisle literally means 'my pulse', and is also used to address a sweetheart or loved one.

A sentimental love song it is also a story of longing, loss and sadness dealing with the separation of two lovers,

Macushla, Macushla,

Your sweet voice is calling,

Calling me softly, again and again,

Macushla, Macushla,

I hear it dear pleading,

My blue-eyed Macushla, I hear it in vain.
