Talented actors, musicians, dancers, artists and writers compete at the finals of Slógadh in Clare.

Billed as Ireland's premier youth festival, for the first time the finals of Slógadh Naisiunta take place in the County Clare town of Ennis.

Organised by Gael Linn the choice of Ennis as the venue for the 1984 finals is due to the level of local participation since Slógadh launched in 1969.

Every available hall in the town has been taken over for the finals of competitions in a variety of subjects dramas, pageants, choirs, singing and céilí music.

Competitors and local musicians provide free entertainment at an outdoor platform in O’Connell Square in the centre of Ennis.

Slógadh has had a considerable impact over the past 15 years, a factor recognised by the Department of Education this year in the granting of a direct subvention.
