The Cliffs of Moher are in the running to be in the new Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Over 200 metres high and spanning eight kilometres, the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare are the most visited tourist attraction in Ireland.
Now the Cliffs of Moher are competing for a spot among the new seven natural wonders of the world. The competition has been launched by The New Seven Wonders Foundation.
In 2007, after over one million votes were cast, the seven new man made wonders of the world were announced. Now the search is under way for the seven most spectacular naturally formed wonders. The Cliffs of Moher face stiff competition from 261 other wonders for a spot on a top 77 list. A panel of experts will then create a shortlist of 21. The list will then go to a public vote and the top seven will be chosen. The results will be announced in 2011.
Geraldine Enright, Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience says the high cliff faces, spectacular views, and a large nesting seabird colonies contribute to making the Cliffs of Moher so special.
With the winning list to be decided by an online vote, Moher Man is leading the efforts to get people to vote for the cliffs. Visitors believe the Cliffs of Moher should have a place on the Seven Wonders list.
If you get a fine day, you get good weather, you can't beat the Cliffs of Moher.
