Three local authorities in the Dublin agree to introduce water charges.

The introduction of domestic charges by local authorities is a contentious issue but two of the four county councils in County Dublin were facing the threat of abolition had they not done so.

South Dublin County Council adopted estimates which will bring in a £70 water charge per household, with Fingal County Council agreeing on £85. Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown has already agreed a charge of between £50 to £90.

County managers have said that they cannot foresee problems in relation to collecting the charges. As Fingal manager Davy Byrne tells RTÉ News, non-payment will affect everyone,

It'll mean we have less to pay for the central services.

John Fitzgerald who is South Dublin County Council Manager respects the right to protest against an issue, but

The law obliges individuals to pay.

The Association of Community Residents Associations (ACRA) said it will begin its campaign of non-payment in the coming weeks.
