Once a hunter of game Gerard King is an artist who now paints animals and birds.

As a young man, Gerard King hunted and killed wild game. He is now a convert to the preservation of wildlife who started painting about 10 years ago and it took hold of him.

His particular skill and interest is for wildlife.

Based in Clifden Gerard King is a self-taught painter who now spends about nine months of the year painting at home. He paints in oils, tempera, acrylics and more recently in watercolours. His work is now in demand but for years, he says he could not give his paintings away.

I paint more or less to satisfy my soul.

His subject matter is mainly birds, an interest which he had long before picking up a paintbrush.
