Boys and girls from secondary schools in Cork are fasting to raise money for the charity SHARE.
The Cork based charity SHARE (Students Harness Aid for the Relief of the Elderly) was founded by students from the Presentation Brothers College Cork in 1970. Visiting older people and carrying out repairs to their homes forms a central part of their work. SHARE is also providing secure and comfortable accommodation.
They've built homes for one hundred and sixty two elderly poor.
The current project is the construction of a convalescent home for vulnerable senior citizens in Cork. As SHARE volunteer Richard Neville explains, this will provide a service for pensioners who are living alone and not in a position to look after themselves,
When they come out of hospital they are not in a position to look after themselves. They need time to recuperate.
