Three families are evicted from their flats on Nicholas Street in Limerick.

Hall's Buildings at Nicholas Street in Limerick City is referred to by some members of Limerick Corporation as 'Hatter’s Castle’. The building, was built during the reconstruction of Limerick City following the siege of 1691.

A number of the occupants of Hall’s Buildings are served with eviction notices. These tenants argue they withheld their rents because repairs had not been carried out by the landlord and the 270 year old building lacks basic facilities.

The Twomey, McNamara and Benn families are evicted from their flats. Furniture is removed from the building and a roll of linoleum is thrown from the window of one of the first floor flats.

The evicted families stand outside Hall’s Buildings. They refuse the alternative accommodation offered by the Limerick Corporation in the City Home. Limerick Corporation will accommodate the three evicted families as soon as housing becomes available.
