Wreaths laid to mark fifty years since the death of republican Liam Lynch.

Marking the anniversary of the death of republican Liam Lynch (Liam Ó Loingsigh) a General in the Irish Republican Army during the War of Independence.

Liam Lynch was chief of staff of the anti-Treaty IRA during the Civil War and a commander during the War of Independence. He was fatally shot on 10 April 1923 while trying to escape from a National Army in the Knockmealdown Mountains in County Tipperary. He was 30 years old.

The commemoration ceremony was held at Kilcrumper Cemetery, Fermoy, County Cork with 2,000 people in attendance. A pipe band and colour party led a parade to the cemetery.

Three of the survivors of the attack, Sean Hyde, Jerry Frewen and Bill Houlihan, attended the commemoration ceremony. Others in attendance included Fianna Fáil TDs and senators.

The oration at the ceremony was delivered by Eamonn de Barra.
