Musicians, singers, dancers and fans arrive for the Fleadh Cheoil in Clonmel.
The 43rd Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann takes place in Clonmel, County Tipperary from 17-29 August 1993. This is the second successive year that the All-Ireland Fleadh is held in Clonmel. More than 150,000 Irish traditional music fans from all over the world are expected to attend with 4,500 musicians taking part in competitions.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is expected to generate approximately £7 million for the Clonmel area. According to Clonmel local Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ) member Des Delahunty,
Financially it's a major boost to a town like Clonmel.
With lessons learned from hosting the previous year, Des Delahunty is confident Clonmel is well prepared for Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 1993,
Hopefully we’ll have plenty of craic, plenty of fun and plenty of competitions.
Director General of CCÉ Labhrás Ó Murchú believes Irish traditional music,
Is possibly among one of the premier art forms at the moment.
He points out that Irish traditional music is attracting a new generation of musicians. Thousands of people come to Ireland because of Irish traditional music, some to appreciate it and others to learn it.
