As the Dublin postal dispute continues mailbags of letters and parcels are piling up in Amiens Street.
On 3 September 1968 postal and parcel workers at the Dublin's main sorting office in Sheriff Street imposed an overtime ban on members of the Post Office Workers' Union (POWU). At the Central Sorting Office in Sheriff Street where millions of letters are sorted on a round the clock basis, overtime is essential to maintain a steady flow.
The overtime ban causes a delay on letter and parcel post deliveries, particularly those in the Dublin area. As the second week of the overtime ban begins there is a mounting backlog of post. Huge numbers of letters and packets pile up in the central sorting office in Dublin.
A Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) lorry full of heavy mail bags arrives at a sorting shed in Dublin's Amiens Street. The bags are unloaded and dragged into the sorting shed.
