Women's Aid statistics show that on average one woman meets a violent death every month in Ireland.
Women who are the victims of murder or manslaughter were attacked on open ground or in their homes.
In the past seven and a half years or 92 months, 92 females have died violently in this country.
Since January 1996, 92 females have been attacked and killed. 62 of these women died in their own homes. Fifty-five cases have resulted in a conviction. In 28 cases, the killer was a close relative of the victim.
Rachel Mullen of Women's Aid points out that for women, the home can be the most dangerous place.
Women are actually nine times more likely to be injured in their home by someone they know.
The figures compiled by Women's Aid do not include cases of missing women who have been abducted and murdered. The figures show that since 1996, over twenty people who have taken the life of a woman remain at large.
