Fresh new blue look for Dublin buses revealed.

This will be sixth change of colour for Dublin Bus since the 1960s.

The new look buses were unveiled at a new bus depot for British company Go-Ahead. Go-Ahead Ireland will begin running services under contract to the National Transport Authority (NTA) in September 2018. Go-Ahead will take over ten per cent of Dublin Bus orbital routes.

The plan is that the whole of Dublin Buses fleet will change to this livery.

According to Anne Graham of the NTA, they wanted to rebrand Dublin Bus as part of the Bus Connects project. However, some want Dublin Bus to keep the familiar colours it has used since 2003. Fianna Fáil TD John Lahart fears that if all buses have the same brand, it is possible that the service could be privatised by stealth withouth the customer knowing.

In 1974, an orange colour was introduced on Dublin Bus. The green design was phased in from 1981.

It's the old blue and cream that is regarded as the classic look.

For transport enthusiast, Ian Molloy, the classic rounded profile of the buses which ran from 1959 to 1982 are superior to the box like buses which followed.
