Cork prepares to welcome the Irish leg of the Tour de France.

The 85th edition of the Tour de France visits Ireland starting in Dublin. The second stage will take the cyclists from Enniscorthy to Cork. Cork Corporation is hard at work putting the finishing touches to the route.

The patience of motorists in Cork city have been tried in recent months, as an intensive schedule of roadworks courtesy has added to transport times. The Tour de France can be thanked for these long awaited road surface improvements.

It would take a French cycle race to finally get our potholes tackled.

The Cork Corporation road division has been on the receiving end of the travelling public’s anger, but crew foreman Jimmy Howard takes it in his stride,

A lot of stick as usual.

Further on at the Carrigohane Road, delicate surgery is taking place at the site which will become the finishing line for the Irish leg of the tour on 13 July. Michael Sheehy and his team are removing cats’ eyes from the road for safety reasons,

When they’re finishing there’s a fair spread of cyclists.

Cork city has embraced the visit of the Grand Tour cycle race, with a festival planned for the weekend.
