Gaeltarra Éireann development awards for the communities of Tír an Fhia and Leitir Mealláin.
Located in Ceantar na nOileán in the Galway Gaeltacht, a remote island region on the western edge of Connemara, these two townlands have a variety of community development programmes in train thanks to the efforts of local cooperative Comharchumann na nOileán.
Top of their list is community employment. Manager Paul Foyle explains this Connemara co-op hopes to employ over two hundred people by the end of 1980 through fishing, fish farming, and the implementation of local water schemes. All of these projects and the construction of a small industrial estate are in conjunction with Gaeltarra Éireann.

They are also working on plans to increase tourist numbers to the region, with development of caravan parks, Irish colleges and tourist hostels.
