A nun dressed in lay clothing in 'The Late Late Show' audience, keeps Gay Byrne on his toes.
Host of 'The Late Late Show' Gay Bryne has been asked to speak to a nun in the audience who is going to South Africa. He singles out a nun, but quickly realises she is the wrong person. He apologises,
I thought you were going off sister, I was told there was a nun, if you pardon the expression.
The correct nun in the audience is Sister Stella from the Dominican Order. She is wearing tartan rather than a nun's habit and is highly amused by the case of mistaken identity. With the help of her niece, she makes herself known to Gay Byrne and tells him she is going back to Cape Town in three days time.
Although they are clearly not watching the show, Sister Stella wants to send greetings to some of the nuns in her community. She explains she will be bringing a tape recording to South Africa to play on her return, even though she will be there in person. Gay Byrne jests,
Are you sure sister this was a good idea?
Gay Byrne goes back to the first nun in the audience, who he learns is from the Little Sisters of the Assumption. She welcomes the chance to send greetings to her friends in the health centre in Dublin's Ballyfermot to which Gay Byrne quips,
What a come down from Cape Town!
