The Square in Tallaght is named the best large shopping centre development in Europe.

The International Council of Shopping Centres announced the new Tallaght retail complex as the best large shopping centre development in Europe at a ceremony in Nice, France. The Square beat other retail developments across Europe.

The Square was awarded the prize on the basis of originality, quality of design and the final overall look.

Nobody seemed to bothered by the fact that it's actually a striking glass pyramid which is the design landmark for the Square.

The Square was jointly developed by Ireland’s Monarch Properties and GRE Properties of London. It is expected that many international visitors will now visit The Square as a result of the win.

The Square opened in October 1990 and over six million people have shopped there since. The development includes five major stores, over thirty shops, cafes, restaurants and a cinema.
