Dubliners give their reaction to a group of Hare Krishna devotees singing and dancing on Graton Street.

The Hare Krishnas, or the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is a Hindu sect founded in New York in 1966. Its followers are known for their singing and dancing with drums and cymbals in city streets.

In spite of terrible weather conditions, a group of Hare Krishnas, dressed in saffron and white robes are joyfully singing and dancing at the top of Grafton Street. Their activities draw interest from passersby.

One woman is bewildered by the group,

I feel very sorry for them because I think they're totally misguided.

A man struggles to understand what the movement stands for,

I’m at a loss to know what they are doing and what it’s all about, I really can’t understand it, how do they live or what’s their religion, I don’t know.

A woman fears for the group’s sanity,

Well on a day like this  I think they all ought to be locked up.

Others people on Grafton Street are more tolerant,

I think they’re cool you know, they’re not harming anybody, it’s not my religion you know but, they look happy enough.

Another man is impressed by the group’s ability to remain happy in the poor weather,

I think I might join them.
