An adventurous programme of events and activities in new venues is at the centre of the first Sligo Arts Festival.

Sligo joins many other provincial towns as it hosts the first arts festival in the town.

Sligo was in line for its ration of culture.

Festival organiser John O'Dea says that the festival hopes to provide creative activity for everybody. Young people in particular have engaged in the festival painting murals on walls throughout the town.

The festival includes over a dozen major exhibitions around the town, many in places that you would not expect like banks and shops. There is also much in the way of street entertainment including mime artists, music and theatre.

It’s fun and it’s free.
