No prizes for craft but winners in the categories of graphic design and fashion.
The Kilkenny Design Awards, now in their ninth year, celebrate the work of young emerging Irish designers.
The prize winners each received between a thousand and two and a half thousand pounds.
In the graphic design competition, students were asked to create a new milk carton for Avonmore Creameries. Avonmore were so pleased with the designs that they have bought the rights to six of the entries.
The winning design was by Nora O'Driscoll who says her objective was to make it more pleasing to the eye and to differentiate between the light and fresh milk. With the help of her prize money of £1,500, Nora O'Driscoll plans to move to London to work with a packaging company.
Not all entrants were so successful and no prize was awarded in the craft section. Judges said that the standard of originality and design was surprisingly low.
Helen McAllister, a student at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) designed embroidered accessories for ladies. She believes there is a market for her prize winning work.
They’re high accessories to go with high fashion.
Helen McAllister plans to use her winnings to travel to Britain, France and Italy to promote her designs.
