A special DART journey in aid of the Radio 2 Lions Club Christmas Food Appeal.

The ninth Radio 2 Lions Club Christmas Food Appeal is taking place at over 1,000 collection points in shops and supermarkets around Ireland. The aim is to collect £250,000 of foodstuffs to distribute to needy families at Christmas time.

In addition to the collection points, a special Radio 2 DART is running from Bray to Howth and back again. All that is needed to board the train is a parcel of non perishable food for the Radio 2 Lions Club Christmas Food Appeal.

The train interior is transformed into a playground with a special Walt Disney carriage, face-painting balloons and sweets. On board to entertain the passengers, is children's storyteller Aunty Poppy, Willie the Clown and Laurel and Hardy.

A spokesman for the Lions Club says most of the food collected will be distributed locally.

It will be around the Dublin area, and Kilbarrack, areas like that where there’s great need.
