A one-mile section of the new Santry Bypass is officially opened.
This has been a joint venture between Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council. Lord Mayor of Dublin Dan Browne and County Council Chairman Mick Gannon arrive for the opening in a horse-drawn coach to mark the end of an era,
The passing of what was once the old northern coach road.
The mile-long section of road opened today starts at the Church of the Holy Child in Whitehall and ends at Coolock Lane near Santry Stadium. Designed to ease traffic congestion in Santry village, it was constructed at a cost of approximately three million pounds and took just over one year to complete.
Phase two of this project will take the bypass beyond the airport and is due to commence next year.
