Princess Grace of Monaco arrives at Shannon Airport to commence a two day visit to Ireland.
The Princess plans to visit her ancestral home in Drimurla near Newport in County Mayo where she has purchased a tumbledown two-roomed thatched cottage, the birthplace of her grandfather John Bernard Kelly. She intends to build a holiday villa on the site which will include some of the stone from her grandfather’s original cottage.
Her plans have received opposition from some local farmers in the area but ultimately the importance of the Princess coming to Ireland in terms of tourism and business for Mayo cannot be overestimated.
